With code updates having taken effect, the City of Lincoln Fire & Rescue has published a guidance document for new permit requirements for fire protection systems, as well as a new permit application.
Applicable codes include IFC sections 105.1.1 and 105.1.5.
Under these sections, ordinary repairs to fire sprinkler systems are exempt from permitting requirements. These might include replacing damaged or recalled sprinkler heads with like type and parameters, replacement of fittings, valves, and gauges without relocation, repair or replacement of pipe sections without changing routing or size, and replacement of damaged escutcheons.
